I strongly believe that theB.C Provincial Government should make September 30^th a statutory holiday, in honour of Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in Canada.

It commemorates the survivors and children who weren't able to return home. Moreover, this is a great opportunity to bring awareness to the long-term effects that residential schools have had on generations of Indigenous people.

Second, adding an extra holiday won't make a substantial difference in employers' preparations, since this issue has been a discussion since 2015.Employers have had plenty of time to assess its financial impact and prepare for its implementation.

Third, the date of September 30^th is significant because it marks the day that the remains of indigenous children of residential schools were found, and having this be a statutory holiday in addition to Labor Day is an appropriate statement of commemoration.

Finally, some may believe that making September 30^th a statutory holiday is no longer necessary since the commemoration can be celebrated solemnly and sincerely even without a holiday.
