My question is as follows:

I work for an independent living facility as a staff accountant. Each department in our building is given a budget they must go by when they expense anything to their lines .However, if a marketing department wants to cover a residents meal in the dining room that would have cost the resident $5. How should this marketing credit be recorded in our books.

Would it be wrong to Debit the marketing line and credit our dining room revenue line?
