Hi professor this article are connected to the question can u just give me a clue to answer in a reflected way and explanation

A Mississauga man who "harboured significant resentment" toward the family of a girl he molested has been sentenced to life in prison for the "senseless, callous and brutal murder" of her 83-year-old grandmother. Alexander Bates, 51, who was on parole for molesting Maria Araujo's granddaughter at the time of her December 2018 murder, was out for revenge against the family whom he blamed for opposing his parole application, Superior Court Justice Bruce Durno said inside a Brampton court Thursday. Bates pleaded guilty to second-degree murder earlier this year. On Thursday, Durno ruled he should have no chance at parole for 16 years. Bates has already been convicted and sentenced for attempting to murder Maria Araulo's son, Alberto Araujo, and his 61-year-old mother-in-law one day later inside their Niagara-area home. In court, Durno described the family's ordeal as "a horror movie.""The Araujo family will not leave here today feeling their concerns for the offender are over," he said. The link between Maria Araujo's murder and Bates' history with the family is inescapable, Durno said. Alberto Araujo and Bates were both motorcycle enthusiasts and had been close friends. After Araujo was injured in a near-fatal motorcycle crash, Bates offered to assist his friend by watching his 14-year-old daughter while he was in hospital. Beginning in September 2012, Bates groomed the teenage girl, engaging in a series of sexual acts that included intercourse over a span of three years, the judge said. Bates later pleaded guilty to sexual interference and, in 2016, was sentenced to three years. Durno said Bates "harboured significant resentment" towards the girl's parents, blaming them for being charged. The court heard how the family "lived in fear," prompting their sudden relocation from Mississauga to Smithville, Ont., west of St. Catharines. Bates was released on parole in February 2018. Ten months later, on Dec. 20, 2018, he drove a rented truck to Maria Araujo's Mississauga home in an effort to uncover the family's new whereabouts, Durno continued. Bates arrived around 1:54 p.m. while the Araujo family matriarch was alone wrapping Christmas gifts. He left 36 minutes later. Maria Araujo's body was found the next day by her niece. She died of manual strangulation and blunt-force trauma to her head and body. "While in the house, (Bates) murdered Maria Araujo," Durno said, describing how he left items strewn throughout the home to create the impression that the home had been broken into and ransacked. The next day, Bates drove to the home in Smithville, carrying an imitation firearm. He punctured the tires of both vehicles at the home, then lay in wait in his truck. While Alberto Araujo was attempting to change a flattened tire, Bates attacked him from behind. He told his former friend that he had a gun and ordered him into the house. Bates then bound and gagged Araujo and demanded to know where his daughter was. Bates proceeded to text Araujo's wife, Meaghan Cher, pretending to be her husband in an attempt to lure her to the home. Cher and her 61-year-old mother Lynda Gallandt arrived to discover a bloody Alberto Araujo tied up in the basement and Bates lurking in a corner. Cher threw an aluminum bat at him and then fled; Bates chased after her before grabbing her mother, who was trapped, Durno explained. Bates then beat both Araujo and Gallandt with a bat, fracturing his skull and causing lacerations to her hand. Both victims also suffered ligature marks around their necks and wrist. Cher meanwhile called 911. In an attempt to evade Niagara Regional Police, Bates pulled out an imitation firearm and pointed it at the officers. He was shot multiple times. A bullet remains lodged in his spine. Bates was previously sentenced to 13 years in prison in August 2019 for the attempted murders of Araujo and Gallandt. His sentence for Maria Araujo's murder will be served concurrently. "I never thought my mother would lose her life to this monster," Alberto Araujo stated in his victim impact statement
