Perhaps one way is that the target audience for the Tread Master came first and that they had a larger sample size to survey and gather data that showed the average user lost 10 pounds. Was this in the first year or six months of purchasing the Tread Master? How much longer has the Tread Master been around before the Climber came into the market. With that being said, the competing Climber could have targeted a larger sample size of Tread Master users that skewed the data making it so that 1 out of 10 users lost weight. Mean Vs. Mode Perhaps the Tread Master gathered their data by using the average or the mean of the data to advertise its effectiveness. By adding up the total weight changes and dividing it by the total number of participants, they were able to find that the average Tread Master user lost 10 pounds.
