HILTON WINDHOEK - OPEN FOR BUSINESS Roman Kopeck has spent the last sixteen (16) months overseeing the birth of a fourteen (14) floors hotel. The hotel opened on 27 May 2011. The new General Manager of the Hilton Windhoek says that the market was ready for a new entrant that focuses on the business market. The Hilton in Windhoek wants to be the hotel of choice for businessman and woman. There is, however, a pool on the roof and all the other amenities to cater for the leisure market. Kopeck says the hotel's eating and drinking facilities are proving to be very successful serving about a thousand (1000) people per day. Its revenue is split 50:50 between rooms and six (6) dining and beverage facilities, The Hilton Windhoek is ideally located at the entrance of a rapid new property development in Windhoek's central business district (CBD). The hotel was built and is owned by United Africa Group, a privately owned Namibian equity company. United Africa MD Haddis Tilahun says the company is a three hundred milion rand (R300m) investment. There are plans to expand the hotel and also to open up a casino. Tilahun says that legislation in Namibia requires a five (5) star establishment to be available before applying for a gambling license. The application has been made and the casino infrastructure is available below the hotel. They are hoping to be open by December 2011.
