HLTH-1251 Practical Thinking in Mathematics Assignment
Purpose
with this assignment, you will investigate the relationship between age (in yrs) and total serum cholesterol concentration (in milligrams per decilitre) for males and females.
Instructions:
1. Open the following file: Online - PTA#2 - Graphing - Data.xls a. There are two worksheets within that document - (1) Female Data; (2) Male Data
Source - Modified from:
Wachsmuth, B. G. Data sets used in intro to stats with excel. Retrieved from http://www.mathcs.org/statistics/datasets/index.html
2. Using Microsoft Excel, make a scatter diagram showing the relationship between age and serum cholesterol concentration for females. Include a line of best fit (Excel's "Trendline") with its equation on the scatter diagram. Express the slope and y-intercept of the line of best fit with two decimal places.
3. Using Microsoft Excel, make a scatter diagram showing the relationship between age and serum cholesterol for males. Include a line of best fit (Excel's "Trendline") with its equation on the scatter diagram. Express the slope and y-intercept of the line of best fit with two decimal places.
4. On page one of a Microsoft Word document, copy and paste (as a "picture") your scatter diagrams (approximately one half a page each). Make sure the scatter diagram for females appears first. See the sample.pdf file as an example.
5. On page two of your Microsoft Word document, use your two equations to solve this system of linear equations (to two decimal places). Show your steps in solving the system of linear equations using Microsoft Word's "equation tools." Be sure to box in your answer. See the sample.pdf file as an example.
Include page numbers (bottom right) in your Microsoft Word file. Save your Microsoft Word file as Last Name.Initial of First Name_MATH (e.g. Oliver.C_MATH) and submit it to the HLTH-1251 drop box on FOL.
Only Microsoft Word files will be accepted.
