Homework 16: Infectious Disease Reporting
In the state of Florida, there are 73 reportable diseases and conditions. This means any time a healthcare provider, lab, or organization identifies and diagnoses one of these diseases or conditions, it must be reported to the Florida Department of Health. These reportable diseases and conditions are then also reported to the CDC for epidemiologic evaluation on a national level. In doing so, the Department of Health and CDC are able to carefully monitor patterns of disease and outbreaks in order to respond rapidly.

Visit theNew York Times COVID Tracker.(Links to an external site.): https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/covid-cases.html
It may seem odd that I selected a news source for COVID info, but I like how the NY Times synthesizes and presents data from multiple health departments and the CDC. Answer the following:
7. Scroll down to the "hot spots" maps for hospitalizations, vaccinations, deaths, and cases per capita. Explore these maps (hint: if you hover over any county it will provide more detailed information. Make at least three observations about trends you see between these three maps--e.g. are there any relationships between vaccinations and deaths by geography?
8. Provide one statement explaining why you believe any of the trends observed on the NY Times COVID Tracker site are occurring (think about determinants of health).
