Homework Case Study (Safety) : Automobile manufacturing companies have been developing marketing strategies to sell more vehicles to car drivers under the age of 21

Homework Case Study (Safety):

Automobile manufacturing companies have been developing marketing strategies to sell more vehicles to car drivers under the age of 21. The U.S. Department of Transportation believes that this is problematic and has hired a research consultant team to develop a transportation safety study. The researchers collected data on the number of fatal accidents per 1,000 licenses and the percentage of licensed drivers under the age of 21 in a sample of 42 U.S. cities. Data were collected over a one-year period. Please download the data set (Safety).

Please address the following five questions using the data set (Safety) in your managerial report:

1.Provide the numerical and graphical summaries of the data (e.g., averages, sample size, etc.) using the descriptive statistics technique.

2.Use the regression analysis technique to investigate the following hypothesis. After running the regression analysis, discuss what hypothesis is supported using the p-value approach at the alpha criteria of .05.

Ho: The percent under 21 does not positively predict the fatal accidents per 1,000 licenses.

H1: The percent under 21 positively predicts the fatal accidents per 1,000 licenses.

3.What conclusion and recommendations can you provide to the U.S. Department of Transportation from your analysis of this data set?

4.Provide at least one residual plot and discuss whether the data set should be assumed to be normal, or not normal. (Just check one of the residual plots when conducting the regression analysis technique with Excel)

5.What would be the ethical implications if researchers were to falsify the results of this data set for his or her benefit? For instance, if an automobile marketer offered monetary incentives to the researchers to support the idea that it is safe to target individuals under 21. From your opinion, why would falsifying the results of this study be perceived to be an unethical use of statistics? Whom might be harmed by lying with statistics in this case study problem? Please explain.

Instructions:

First, download the Excel Document (Safety). Second, address the three questions under Managerial Report above.

Note: Upon completing the assignment, make sure to submit your output and your interpretations via Blackboard by 11:59PM on Saturday (4/21).

Note: For question 1, you can ask excel to provide you with the basic descriptive statistics for all variables.

1.Select TOOLS/DATA ANALYSIS

2.Select Descriptive Stats, then press OK

3.HIGHLIGHT ALL labels so that INPUT RANGE reads them

4.When the BOX appears

a.Select Columns

b.Select Labels in the First Row

c.In Output Range, put the descriptives in E1 (or elsewhere)

d.Click on Summary Statistics

e.Click on Confidence Level at the 95%

f.Click OK

If not, then you can gather specific values, you need to insert the unique formulas. sample size (=COUNT(A#:A#), mean (=AVERAGE(A#:A#), median (=MEDIAN(A#:A#), standard deviation (=STDEV(A#:A#), standard error (=standard deviation value/SQRT (sample size), Treatment Mean, SE Mean, Min-MAX, Q1 and Q3. Also, make sure to write out your inferences and interpreted conclusions of the ANOVA for both data sets.
