Homework Question: From the hypothesis below, what is a possible research question and show how to test the results and justify it. (The response below is from one of the tutors and I need to come up with a research question and justify it-I need a question to research for analysis)
The hypothesis test results claim that happiness in the relationship is dependent on the factors like the type of relationship and financial comfort. It is not dependent on gender. Also, from the t-test, we observed that the incomes of participants and their partners are significantly different.
We get
We noticed that the chi square test statistic is equal to 2.156. Also, the p-value (=0.642) is higher than the significance level 0.05. So, we failed to reject H0. Thus, the variables gender and relationship happiness are not related to each other.
Next we examined whether the relationship status and happiness are correlated or not. The hypotheses are
H0:Relationship status and happiness are independent variables.
H1:There is an association between relationship status and relationship happiness.
Following the same steps stated earlier, we got the below shown outputs:
We observed that the chi square test statistic value is 35.211 and the p-value is 0. Since p-value <0.05, we reject the null hypothesis. Therefore, there exists a significant relationship between type of relation and happiness in the relation.
The above 2 test results show that the happiness in their relationship is independent of gender. Also, it is observed that happiness is dependent on the factor 'relationship type'. This indicates 'type of relationship' can be utilized in explaining their happiness levels.
We checked whether there is a notable association between type of relationship and financial comfort or not. The hypotheses are
H0:Relationship happiness and financial comfort are independent.
H1:Relationship happiness and financial comfort are dependent.
Following the same procedure, the below results were obtained:
The contingency table is given by
Test result is given by
The p-value=0<0.05. So, we are able to reject H0 and conclude that the variables financial comport and relationship happiness are associated.
We check for the significant difference between incomes of respondents and their partners. For that we integrate the 2 incomes in a single variable and represent each of them with ID, either 1 or 2. IDs are recorded based on which group they belong to.
H0:The difference between the 2 incomes are insignificant.
H1:There is a noticeable difference between the 2 incomes.
Steps in SPSS:
Analyze>Compare means>Independent samples t test>Fillincomein test variable>FillIDin grouping variable>Define groups 1 and 2>Click OK.
P-values for both tests when considering 2 population variances are equal and unequal, are less than 0.05. So, we infer that the difference between the incomes of respondents and their partners is significant.
