Measure masses of each metal sample without hook. Place hooks back on samples and attach one string to each hook (about 1 foot long). This will help make pulling the samples out of the hot water bath easier.3. Place metal samples (with hooks, free end of string OUTSIDE of bath) in for about 5 minutes to have them reach 100C.4. Measure mass of empty calorimetry cup.5. Prep enough room temp water into calorimetry cup to immerse (cover) metal sample. Do not place any metal samples in room temp water yet. Measure the mass of the water+cup.6. Determine mass of water in cup (subtract 4 from 5). This is mwater-7. Measure the initial temp of water. This is Tinitial water.Remove one sample from the hot bath. Quickly dry it off with a paper towel and place it into the calorimeter until submerged in the cool water. Stir with digital thermometer and record the final temperature of the system after about 30 seconds ?that should be enough time for the system to reach thermal equilibrium. Any longer and it will slowly drop in temp to room temp. If you like, you may use the digital thermometers that you can connect to the computers using LoggerPro, so you can see the temperature leveling off and gauge what the final temperature (T final) is--where thermal equilibrium took place. Note T final will be the same for both the water and the sample.9. Using this data, determine the unknown c of the sample.
