Project Justification

Pediatric patients board in the ER for several hours before a room on the unit is assigned and ready for a new patient. Meanwhile, while patients wait those hours boarding in the ER, admission orders sit on their chart and have not yet started resulting in a delay in care. This HIP also answers countless incident reports resulting in patient readmission from incomplete pediatric admission assessments and incomplete and vague cookie-cutter care plan goals that are ineffective. Medication errors also result from admission orders not being processed or written correctly.

Having an admissions team complete pediatric admission and process the admitting orders within 90 minutes from Decision to Admit (DTA).

The admissions team independently completes the admit allowing unit nursing staff to care for their assigned patients; this improves job satisfaction and reduces nurse burnout.

Admission orders are processed and initiated with medications and treatments started.

The team completes admission independently, allowing floor nurses to care for current assignments.

Pediatric admissions are finished within 90 minutes of the Decision to Admit (DTA).

Increase in pediatric inpatient satisfaction rate (Press Ganey scores).

Project Outcome Statement
