Question:
How can I respond to this student. This is what the student posted: After reading through the introduction to organizational behavior module, I believe that the management theory that best describes the workplace that I am currently employed at would be the general systems theory. The general systems theory was created by Ludwig von Bertalanffy, and is based on the idea of the human body system and how it operates. In life, if something within the human body is thrown off, it can affect the body as a whole. If you have an infection that you leave untreated, that infection is not going to stay localized to where it started, it is going to spread throughout the rest of the body affecting the host piece by piece until it's either treated or the entire body becomes infected and inevitably dies. This idea can also be related to a workforce. As I'm personally experiencing at work the time-old saying is true, one bad apple can poison the whole bunch, which is exactly the idea behind the general systems theory in management. Currently at work we have a group of individuals who do not contribute anything work related but cause a lot of drama and bullying towards the rest of the staff. These individuals have quickly turned a great place to work into a very toxic work environment. My organization has lost many employees from these people bullying them and management and HR doing nothing about it, and they continue to act this way because they know they can get away with it, meanwhile everyone is quickly growing tired of this treatment and making plans to leave the organization. This management theory is hurtful towards an organization if not treated properly. If we had a leader who acted on the negativity it would be a very beneficial theory for our organization, but unfortunately, we do not. If our manager was someone who reacted to such negativity and cut it off at the source, this theory would work great, much like if you treat an infection at the source, you prevent it from spreading throughout your body.
Also, how can i respond to this: Administrative management theory is the theory that mostly relates to my organization. I would define this theory as a great manager to associate relationship meaning, everyone is communicating and all associates know who they can go to and who will be able to help them. This theory represents my organization because I'm involved in management at Ulta Beauty and everyone feels appreciated due to the five different managers we have that ask every second if anyone needs help. There are lots of rewards for appreciation and lots of opportunity to share opinions! When one associate at my store felt useless, she told a manager and felt comfortable to try and make things better. The girl knew that at Ulta we want the best environment and that's administrative just like how "Fayol's administrative management theory is the idea that everyone in a company should be aligned by organizational goals" (McCann, 2015). This management theory is very helpful for employees because it makes them all feel safe.
