Discussion Topic Practicing interdependence is a characteristic of a successful student. Recognizing it is okay to ask for help can be a shift for some, but this is one way of seeking solutions. Sometimes we can punish ourselves because we don't want others to know we need assistance. Building support networks is a way to include others in our journey to reaching goals and it is okay to let them know we may need a little help along the way. Step 1: In your initial discussion post, answer the following questions. Self-Reflection 1. What is one thing you could use assistance with right now (think about your quadrant I and II items from your module 4 journal assignment). Who might you be able to ask for assistance? If unsure, how might you go about finding this assistance? 2. Whether in big or small ways, who makes up your current support network? How might you be able to expand your support network? Who are additional people or groups that you might connect with? 3. Using the descriptions in chapter 5 of On Course, explain how you are more independent, dependent, codependent or interdependent? Academic Support 4. Explain which specific college resources (tutoring. financial aid, IvyCares) might benefit you at this time. Refer to the Support Services page in our Resources module (or other Ivy Tech resources you've seen) for ideas. 5. Locate and share three quality resources (remember the Seven Steps Research Strategy: Evaluation page) within your local community that could play a supportive role in achieving your goals whether academic, professional, or personal. Some example search terms might include "city/town name + community centers" or "city/town name + support services" but could also include local professional groups in your career field or social groups that have a common interest as you. Action Steps 6. Based on your reading in chapter 5 of On Course, describe your own plan for becoming more interdependent when it comes to school (such as the ones explained in chapter 5 under the "Get Help from College Resources" section). How will you increase your support levels or supportive people? Step 2: Reply to at least two of your classmates' posts. In your response to your peers, consider their answers. Do you see any similarities between their answer and yours? Do you have advice on resources they might find useful? To get started, hit the "Reply" button below. Then begin typing your answer. When you hit "post reply," your classmates will be able to see your post. To see the grading rubric, click the menu button above and choose "Show Rubric
