Critical thinking is a crucial tool in research and everyday life. Our own biases and emotions should be excluded when making decisions or analyzing data because they can manipulate the truth of a theory. Critical thinking is a combination of self-reflection, knowing how to separate truth from and idea, and being able to express ideas. Sometimes we forgot to analyze what we have read. From the five-step process, one overlooks the question of if the interpretation is logical and the long-term effects of implications. Critical thinkers should be asking questions and gathering data they find imperative to the study. To be a critical thinker, one must be open minded, analyze the data, seek the truth and look for evidence to support that truth. While conducting research, researchers need to seek knowledge, review studies and data for clarification, and discuss new solutions or conclusions. Critical thinking does not include memorizing and reciting data straight from a book nor is it black and white. One must test the hypothesis and not just accept the findings as they are. Is the information accurate and is there enough proof to support the results? There should be substantial information to back up the findings. Ask yourself are the finding deductive or inductive reasoning. Regardless of the situation or purpose for critical thinking, when looking through data to answer questions, ask yourself who, what, where, when, and how. This increases the likelihood of leaving no stone unturned. I incorporate critical thinking in my everyday life. When I bought my SUV, I looked up the brand and model, compared it to other vehicles, read reviews, test drove numerous vehicles, and then I reviewed all the information I accumulated to make a valid decision. I used a similar method when purchasing a house, after narrowing down my choices, I looked at the same houses on different websites to see if they were depicting the same information describing the house and neighborhood. Some had the same information while other varies. Instead of just taking one website's word, I dug deeper to look at all perspectives.
