Some groups are better than others at ensuring that their members behave the way the group prefers. Coheslve groups are more
effective than noncohesive groups at norm enforcement. But do they have norms of high or low performance? The highest
performance occurs when a coheslve team has highperformance norms. But if a highly coheslve group has lowperformance norms,
that group will have the worst performance. In the group's eyes, however, It will have succeeded in achleving Its goal of poor
performance. Noncohesive groups with highperformance norms can be effectlve from the company's standpoint. However, they won't
be as productlve as they would be If they were more cohesive. Noncohesive groups with lowperformance norms perform poorly, but
they will not ruln things for management as effectlvely as can cohesive groups with lowperformance norms.
