How do you feel about the following statement involving physics?
Distance
- My familiarity with distance is the amount of space between point a and point b. When i think of distance I think back to my running days or even when I travel. knowing the distance, you have traveled and knowing how long you have left could help you with completing the distance at a reasonable time. this works better for running than it does traveling.
- I would use this word in basic conversation when talking about making plans and how long the commute will be. sometimes its better to know the distance to the location before agreeing to any plans. "Lets stop for drink at O'RIELYS off of Dutchess Road."
- When discussing distance in the technology world. it simply means digital learning media along with the internet, email, and even television.
- when discussing distance in distance kinematics it is simply the path traveled by an object.
- The similarities are that the distance is measured between objects in the tech world and distance is measured from point A to point B in the real world. the amount of distance is being measured the same.
- The big impact for distance is knowing the measurements of the distance before attempting such. its good to know the measured distance before attempting such.
Time
- My familiarity with time is just based on knowing how to plan out my day. We go by time in everything we do. what time to be at work and what time we get off. The time for an event that is being planned. bedtimes. wake up times. everything we do we try and do it base off of time.
- the term Time when talking to everyday people is pretty basic. Try to plan an event without discussing time. all of the people involved would up at different times and it would ruin the event. time is important no matter how you look at it.
- Time could mean a few different things in technical terms. It could be an acronym, which stands for Telecoms, IT, Media, and Electronics. there a a few acronyms for time that we could use in the technology world.
- the similarities between real world time and technology time are that real world time is how we know when its time to do something. like go to work or school. or lunch time, or bedtime. and time in the tech world just shows us different ways to use time. like in IT. or media and electronics. -adam
Speed:
My familiarity with speed is used as a measurement of the rate of action/unit of time, the quicker an action is the more speed is attributed to the specific action.
I hear speed used personally in a few specific settings, in gaming, a high-speed action takes only a small number of frames. In driving speed is used to refer to distance/time.
The technical definition of speed is the magnitude of an objects change of position over time or per unit of time.
In relation to the course goal of describing motion speed is an important measurement, you can measure the instantaneous speed of an object at a specific time, or the average speed of an object throughout its travel.
The differences seem to be that in kinematics speed is specifically used as a measurement of distance/time rather than a measurement of action/time.
The similarities are that in both kinematics and in general speed is a measurement of time.
I think that the technical definition of speed is a simple enough concept that with some effort its easy to distinguish from a more general definition.
Acceleration:
My familiarity with acceleration is mostly tied to cars, as is my experience with it in everyday language. I think of acceleration as a measurement of how quickly something gains speed.
The more technical definition of acceleration is the rate in which an object changes its velocity.
Acceleration is an important tool in being able to describe and measure motion in a technical and quantitative way.
Something interesting about the difference between the more common usage and technical usage is with negative acceleration and decelerating, because acceleration is a measurement of change in velocity when an object slows it means that the direction of the change is becoming increasingly negative instead of positive like I would normally think of it. -nicholas
