How does the follow Stop, Start, Continue to the follow 2 response?
- Stop: What are the leadership skills and behaviors the learner has selected that you recommend be stopped, i.e., not pursued? Provide the rationale as to why you believe a leadership skill they have selected may not be the most appropriate focus area based on your review of the employee engagement survey results. If you don't identify any leadership behavior focus area to stop, then how would you suggest one or more of the targeted leadership behavior areas be modified to better address the outcome desired?
- Start: What leadership skills and behaviors do you recommend the learner add as a focus area? Provide the rationale for your recommendation as well as one to two suggested ways this leadership skill/behavior could be targeted for improvement.
- Continue: For the recommendations that the learner has made that you fully agree with, provide commentary as to why you believe the selected leadership skills and behaviors area is appropriate to be addressed.
1. Response 1:
1.After initial review of the results from our employee engagement survey, the leadership behaviors that need to be improved upon are the skills relating to recognition of employees as well as showing them that we appreciate them. The results of the survey show that these two areas have never been an area of satisfaction for our employees as these questions have averaged below 40%. Showing employees appreciation for the work they do is necessary in leadership today. Also giving recognition where it is deserved is vital to keeping employee morale up and having success in being a leader. It doesn't have to be a big celebration by any means but giving individual feedback gives your team the time and shows them that even though you may be busy, you take personal time to recognize and appreciate them and this will make them work harder and respect you as their leader and not their boss.
2. The leadership skills I would develop for my organization's leadership are Encourage the heart and inspire a shared vision. Based on the results from the survey the two categories of skills listed are needed to develop our leadership group and help improve our survey results going forward. We need leaders who can inspire through respect and sharing the same goals. Doing this will make a team culture as everyone will be on the same page which will improve performance and job satisfaction. When leadership and employees are working towards the same goal as a team, it is easier for leadership to give recognition and show appreciation when completing tasks and projects. Including in these skills I would like to have leadership classes that teach our leaders how to effectively give feedback and appreciation to employees that is constructive and effective for their teams. This will allow employees to feel the recognition and appreciation they have not felt effective for the last four years and build our leaders to be stronger and more successful in their roles.
3.Improving our leadership and the skills listed above will be a good start to improving our organization's culture. With our leaders leading our employees to a common goal will not only improve the morale of our employees, but they will also churn out higher production as they will want to achieve the same vision as their leader is communicating to them and their teams want to achieve. Also with our leaders showing appreciation and recognition on a more appropriate basis, our employees will hopefully view their leader doing this and start spreading recognition and appreciation amongst theirs elves helping build our organizations culture to better results next year.

2. Response 2:
Based upon the assessment from the employee engagement survey the leadership behaviors needed to improve the work environment consist of a leadership in which they show concern for their employees and prove to be trustworthy leaders in which staff feel they can go to when issues arise. Leadership behavior also needs to be more focused on making sure they're being ethical with their actions. The leadership skills that I'd recommend including in my leadership toolkit to develop the identified leadership behaviors consists of kindness, concern, empathy is another trait that might be beneficial. Additionally, incorporating a mindset or process for recognition would be an asset as well.
Improvements in the recommended leadership skills and behaviors will help improve organizational performance by creating an environment of appreciation, increased level of trust, and support. Environments in which people feel listened to, valued, and recognized will often create spaces in which people want to remain and find ways in which not only they can grow, but also can help to grow the company as well. This improved environment could potentially lower the chances of turn over as employee satisfaction increases.
