How has commercial real estate performed as an asset class during Covid? The answer is that it depends which real estate sector you are looking at. We have been using a Price Tracker file to chart the price action of various REIT sectors from pre-Covid to the present. The sectors that serve e-commerce, like industrial, are performing very well and have surpassed pre Covid price levels. Data centers are also doing well because of the growing role of technology in business and society. REITs based on brick and mortar retail faced head winds prior to Covid and their price action reflects that they faced sharper challenges as a result of Covid.
