How long could this MLB lockout theoretically last?

It is rumored that the players are asking for a lot in the current CBA, so the owners locked out the players. Eventually a new CBA will be agreed upon, but how long could each side theoretically hold out for.

The NBA locked out in 2011-12, shortening the season to 66 games. If the owners refused to come to an agreement, would the players cave to meet the owners demands, or will the owners cave to meet the players demands?
