How should I respond to this?
The article by Ken S. Ewertargues the positionoffree market. I, personally, found myself agreeing with this article. I believe that free market is more beneficial and realistic for the people of America. I think it opens upmore options for both wealthy people and people of less wealth. Adding on, I believe that a free market defends the liberty of Americans, keeping government intervention to a limit.I love that this article addresses that "selfishness" occurs with or without a free market. Selfishness is a heart issue. In Genesis 8:21, it says that "the intentions of a man's heart is evil from its youth." No man goes about his life never doing a selfish act, whetherit is good or bad. Politicians or not, everyone makes decisions that benefit themselves, their business, or their goal etc. There is no guarantee that a market controlled by the government will mean that selfish decisions are not made. The "Christian Left" people, according to the article, believe that the a free market encourages materialism among consumers and sellers. This article explains that humans are responsible for their own lust for materialistic things, not the advertisements or the people making them.
Moving on, a free market allows people to "act apart from economic motives." I'm a part-time worker at Chick-fil-A, and there are many times where I come in contact with guests who maybe forgot their wallet, have tears streaming down their face, etc. Many people have probably heard of our "surprise and delight." This is where we give away free food, on our own time, when we feel a customer might need it or when we are feeling charitable. A free market allows CFA to do things like this and give to people out of the kindness of our hearts rather than for economic purpose. I like the way this article argues free market and I am so proud to be in a country where this is exercised.
