One specific trait that I did during this speech was explaining and breaking down what the research meant. This was a verbal skill that helped the audience be able to understand more. I also feel that I did a pretty good job at making this speech personal and genuine by adding in my own personal experiences with schizophrenia. This is another verbal skill that could make the audience feel like I was reliable and trustworthy. I used gestures (nonverbal skill) and a good, clear tone of voice (verbal skill). I used my space a bit more than my last speech (nonverbal skill), which helped the speech feel more personal and connected.

2. One limitation I demonstrated during this speech was that I was constantly looking at my notecards, which was a nonverbal skill. It reduced my eye contact with the audience and it showed my nervousness. It was hard not to memorize all the information and sources, but I could have prepared even more ahead of time. I also found it hard to be flow and not be so stiff, because I was so nervous. This lack of eye contact made me seem less engaged and overall less prepared. I find that performing in front of my family and friends is more difficult than a classroom. That made me use a lot of vocal fillers and I would pause a lot due to nervousness.

3. For my next speech, I want to start memorizing my information earlier so that I'm more familiar with it and don't have to look at my notecard as much. I will try to give myself a week to start memorizing instead of a couple days. I also plan to practice reciting the whole speech more so that I could learn how to be more comfortable and less stiff. These two goals will help me be a stronger speaker by helping my credibility through showing that I care enough to come prepared and knowledgeable. Practicing in front of Chanel could help a lot more instead of just going over my outline with her. I could even practice in front of my classmates a couple of times through scheduling a zoom call with some of them if they're up for it. I want my speech to be as genuine as my tribute speech, even though it's not the same. To do that, I want to write down and remember why I chose the topic that I did and how important it is to me. I want to deliver the next speech with more fluidity and passion.
