How to respond to the following DQ answer
Conscious capitalism is the idea that business elevates humanity when practiced consciously (Gibb, 2022). The four characteristics together can improve a company's performance rather than just making a profit. Is about having a higher purpose (Mackey & Sisodia, 2013). It is about being accountable for our actions, having a better sense of what is right and what is wrong, rejecting violence, and being in harmony with nature. Companies that participate in conscious capitalism "...believe business is good because it creates value, it is ethical because it is based on voluntary exchange, it is noble because it can elevate our existence and it is heroic because it lifts people out of poverty and creates prosperity and makes a positive impact on the world..." (Mackey & Sisodia, 2013, p.1). "Conscious leaders are driven by service to the company's purpose, to all the people the business touches and to the planet we all share" (Mackey & Sisodia, 2013, p.1).
In the non-profit hospital where I work, I can see how these attributes would benefit the organization. Healthcare is about profits from the stakeholder's perspective. From the nurse's perspective, it is about taking care of the patient and doing what's right. There lies the conflict. Conscious businesses have trusting and authentic caring cultures, that make working there a source of personal growth and professional fulfillment. It is difficult for bedside nurses to understand why they can't have an extra nurse or nursing assistant to help out when the patient assignments requires extra hands. The stakeholders of the organization are paid millions of dollars a year. Yet the nurses who are taking care of the patients that allow the stakeholders to bring in that income, can't get help when needed. If the hospital operated from a conscious capital perspective, I believe there would be more social, cultural, emotional, spiritual, and physical wealth for everyone involved. Conscious businesses create lasting value as the world evolves to even greater levels of prosperity, helping billions of people flourish and lead lives filled with purpose, love, and compassion (Mackey & Sisodia, 2013).
