How to respond to the following DQ answer.
Servant leadership is a personal journey for every individual that is comprised of the ability and desire to act and engage with a specific purpose. When I think about the overall principles that I will apply as I move forward beyond this course and in my engagement with others, I will practice both my current ability and my desire to always improve as a servant leader. Spears (2021) talked about his experiences working alongside Greenleaf and the progressive movement of both his theory and his approach to servant leadership. Spears believes each person who becomes a servant leader does so in his/her own way and it's a process based on who they are as a person and their life experiences (2021). I can only be a servant leader based on what I currently know and with that, I can demonstrate empathy and engagement. In addition, Greenleaf (2002) affirms this same belief. In an encounter with Poet, Robert Frost, Greenleaf identified that definition of servant leadership changes within ourselves over the course of time. It becomes a personal philosophy that we actively choose to practice. More importantly, it is not something governed by our employees or peers. Moving forward, it would be my goal to continue to adopt, refine, and practice this philosophy.
