For consistency you need to swap the data columns around by: highlighting your 2019 column (click on the letter at the top - E in this case) right click your mouse select cut highlight your 2018 column (click on the letter at the top - D in this case) right click your mouse select insert cut cells. Excel Data Setup your Horizontal Analysis You need to work out the $ difference between the two years and the % difference. Name your columns. In your $ Movement Column (1 on next slide) enter the following formula: =D-E Set this to 0 decimal places and copy this to all the cells below by selecting the bottom right hand corner of the cell box which has a thicker corner and drag it down You may need to widen your column so place your curser on the line between the two letters at the top and double click (2 on next slide) - this will make the column the right width (you can drag it if you wish). In your % Movement Column (3 on next slide) enter the following formula: =F/E This is your Movement divided by your base year of 2018 Convert the cell to % by clicking on the % button (4 on next slide) on the Home tab, increase the decimal points (5 on next slide) to 2 and drag and copy the formula down. The next slide shows you what your data should look like. Please do this for each of your four tabs. NOTE: for the analysis of the profit and loss statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement the $ movement should be set to 0 decimal places. The % movement should be set to 2 decimal places.
