For some reason, my career field sucks at communication. It does not matter how great people get along, but a lot of information is left out when it comes to turnover for our shifts. As I went through this week's material, I learned that my shop has an informal channel. Informal communication can flow in any direction to allow people who need to converse to interact. That's what seems to happen to us, and on top of that, there's a lot more of a grapevine during our turnover. There are more side conversations and stories provided than what we really need to tackle at work. However, when we're on top of our workload, we don't need to communicate to work things out because every piece fits perfectly.

I personally think that there is a massive absence of feedback. My nightshift never had the opportunity to do turnover with dayshift face to face. Dayshift assumes that whatever they're doing is effective since we don't get to tell them that what they have done is wrong. What always happens is that we fix their mistakes but never get to correct them since we don't see them until our next shift comes in. We had to clarify the message we needed to pass them that we had to walk through them step by step -- which worked but then they lost track of it again, that we had to restart.
