Before a performance evaluation is conducted, it is important to set expectations for each employee. This will set the standard that is used to evaluate employee performance. I like the idea you had to include sales data in the evaluation, this will provide additional data when determining if an employee is contributing to the organization. Formal performance feedback should take place bi-annually and informal feedback should be taking place continuously. It is important for employees to receive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses within an organization. Lastly, it is crucial for employees to understand the organizational mission and goals for their company. This will help the employee feel connected with the organization they work for.

As you already stated, assessments explain not only what is expected by the organization to the employee but it can also be used as a tool of goal setting for an employee to meet the requirements of the company. For example, if an employee is hired for a position that requires a specific set of qualifications. The company may pay to send that member to training to receive those qualifications or set a time limit for or probation period for an employee to receive the qualification to hold down a permanent position, then check back with the employee on a routine bases to see how close they are at accomplishing the goals set. This can be through either an informal or formal assessment. Its always important to monitor objectives of employees and see how they are fairing for a short or long term goal.
