How would you respond to this discussion:
I am a mom of two, busy toddlers and a wife. I have BS in Journalism and Mass communication (TV Production) that I earned in 2006. I have worked for Walt Disney, ESPN, CBS and Lifetime and was able to meet and work with some really interesting and sometimes famous people. I made a switch in careers around 2012 and started as a pharmacy technician/representative for CVS and have been employed with the company for 12 years in various positions. I believe this course will help me reach the next level in my leadership skills and improve my job opportunities. I expect to learn more about how to influence people in business and learn more about how great leaders succeed in their leadership.
Of the four areas of study in organizational behavior (OB), I would focus on the sociology of the organization first because it is important to know the structure of a business. It is important to know what is expected of the organization and how those expectations should be met. I would like to know what makes the business successful and where it has opportunities. It helps to know the structure to hire the appropriate team of people to build success. Knowing the divisions and parts, how a business communicates, flows and reports to leaders is key in knowing who to hire. Once I have an idea on who I need to hire I can then focus on the psychological parts of the people I need to hire. For example, if the job requires a lot of group work, I may need to vet out more people who thrive and are comfortable in an environment with lots of teamwork. Knowing the expectations of the business would help me explain the culture to potential colleagues and give them a chance to see if the position is a good fit for their life and goals as well.
