Explain the background to the study, why did the researchers choose to study this? Why was the study needed? What is the important clinical question that the review addressed? Discuss the reasons why you chose the topic you did. RESEARCH REVIEW (include METHODOLOGY) Provide an overview of the study methods to the best of your ability. Who is the study about? Describe the population that the researchers are trying to study. If a sample was used, describe the sample, the volume, how they were chosen etc. Where did the participants come from? Describe the study design and methodologies used to collect data. Was a treatment or intervention offered? If a survey was used, what was the response rate? Does the study mention bias - if yes, describe attempts to minimize bias. For example, if samples were used, were they selected randomly? If control groups were used, was there blinding? What was the duration of the follow up? Continued on page 2 2. DISCUSSION/FINDINGS/OUTCOME What outcome was measured and how? Provide an overview of the study findings. Briefly describe any statistical analysis. For example, were probability and confidence levels discussed? 3. CONCLUSION Did the Authors Meet the Objectives set out in the statement of purpose? What can professionals in the field learn from this study? Was it easy or difficult to follow? If the paper or the methodologies were not clear, then express that. Can you think of a way they could have improved it? What did you learn from this study? Can you think anything that would have improved this study or review for you? Marks will be based on: Using your own words, judgment, opinion, and self expression; Originality of thought; providing details of expansion that support the central theme; Development of topic with analysis; Effective introduction, body & conclusion - tied together.
