"In the article, Weinstein states, "Ethics is a set of principles developed purposefully over time. Morality is something one feels intuitively." He goes on to state, "Ethics is a map of how one makes choices. Morality is an established code that can be used to judge behavior." With this being said, ethics are different from person to person, place to place, and situation to situation. Ethical dilemmas are just as complex and can be affected by many different variables. One of these aforementioned variables is something called competing values. Competing values are similar to perceived values in that the value of what is being discussed differs much like ethics do; from person to person, place to place, and situation to situation. The value of what is being discussed changes because some individuals benefit more when the value is less or more than what the actual value may be thus creating this competing value. Competing values affect ethical dilemmas because although something may be perceived as unethical, if the value is great enough it may not matter to the involved parties. The intended and unintended consequences of these choices vary; however, depending on the morals of the parties involved, people will step on or over others in order to get what they want."
