In the above video, you saw a business man who wanted to sell generators at a premium to those affected by a hurricane. His desire to dramatically mark up the generators and thus give himself an incentive to drive to the disaster was stopped by the authorities. More recently, stores ran out of toilet paper because consumers were panic buying. If stores were allowed to price gouge, they would have increased prices to the point that people would have only purchased exactly what they needed - thus ensuring there was toilet paper for everyone.
