Human Resource departments are responsible for recruitment and retention, but also talent management. Talent management revolves around improving performance and establishing systems that inspire and encourage teams to perform well (Van Vulpen, n.d.). While much of this initiative falls on the HR department, but it also involves managers, supervisors, and executives (Van Vulpen, n.d.). Some of the challenges that HR is faced with include employee shortages, job satisfaction, and career advancement for employees within healthcare (Fried & Gates, 2015). It is estimated that over 200,000 nurses are needed nationwide to fill gaps (Lauby, 2020). Also associated with shortages, is the marketability of the organization (Fried & Gates, 2015). This entails aspects such as competitiveness and compensation (Fried & Gates, 2015). In order to combat these struggles in the health care realm, HR can take measures to increase company attractiveness and retention. Improving working conditions, benefits, and compensation are the best practices to retain employees (Lauby, 2020). HR can also fight for their employees to have alternate schedules to better suit their needs (Lauby, 2020). Giving providers more time with patients and clients can aid in overall job satisfaction (Lauby, 2020). For career advancement, it would be beneficial to utilize the 'dual career path' that is applicable for most healthcare organizations (Fried & Gates, 2015)
