Hydrogeology:

1. For mechanical energy, hydraulic head, and force potential: state the main idea of each section, without memorizing equations. Recognize equations.

2. Head: recall meaning of total head, pressure head, and elevation head, make or interpret sketches, apply to examples with numbers (both in unsaturated zone and saturated zone).

3. Briefly State what is meant by the REV concept (in both graphical and written forms).

4. Recall/briefly explain the limits of Darcys Law, i.e., state a couple situations where Darcys Law may not be applicable.

5. Sketch a unit cell and write the mass flux terms into and out of a unit cell, given that mass flux is density times specific discharge; given a unit cell with labeled sides, identify mathematically the cross-sectional area related to a given flux direction; given a flux, correctly substitute in Darcys equation for one term.

6. Recognize and match groundwater equations to whether they are applicable to conditions including: unconfined (DuPuit) or confined aquifers, steady-state or transient, isotropic or anisotropic, homogeneous vs. heterogeneous, and if flow is in 1-dimension, 2-dimensions or three-dimensions.

7. Recall and identify equipotentials, flowlines or streamlines, and boundaries (including several), and be able to relate velocity to width of streamtubes
