HYPOTHESIS TEST PROJECT Due Saturday, December 4, 2015 by 11:59 p.m. The objective of this project is to collect data on two samples and perform an appropriate hypothesis test - either a matched pairs t-test or a two sample t-test. Be very careful to perform the correct hypothesis testsome of these examples require a matched pairs test while others require a two sample t-test. Choose one of the following situations on which to perform a statistical hypothesis test. 1. Pick two different grocery stores (i.e. Albertsons, Fred Meyer, QFC, Safeway, etc) and compare the prices of at least 25 products to see if the grocery chains have the same pricing on products. 2. Determine whether the ages of students attending BC differ by the time of day they take classes (day classes vs evening classes). 3. Is there a difference in the amount of time people exercise depending on their age? Find a sample of people under 40 years of age and a sample over 40 years of age. 4. Do men and women differ in the number of books they read per month? 5. Do men and women differ in the number of times they have visited a doctor in the last year? 6. Do gas prices differ depending on the brand of gasoline (Chevron, Texaco, Shell, etc.)? 7. Any other situation that involves the comparison of two samples. Please check with your instructor for approval. Gather the data. Each sample should consist of at least 25 pieces of data - the two sample sizes do not have to be equal unless you are doing a matched pairs test. Report in detail how you obtained your samples. (8 points) Report all of your data (list all data) and how you gathered the data. (8 points) The null would be that the two sample means are equal. State in words the null hypothesis with respect to your situation. (4 points) Choose an alternative hypothesis BEFORE collecting your data. State in words your alternative hypothesis with respect to your situation and why you have chosen that hypothesis. (4 points) After specifically answering all of the above, perform an appropriate statistical test with = .05 using the following guide: (show all of your computational work and each of the four steps) (20 points) 1. 2. 3. 4. Hypotheses: Test Statistic: P-Value: Conclusion: Please provide clear, concise and thorough explanations of all the above information requested. I expect complete sentences that are grammatically correct. All spelling and punctuation should also be correct. (6 points will be given for timeliness, following directions and adhering to the guidelines above.) NOTE: Keep in mind that you need do to this project twice. And the second time should be different answer from the first one. Save each of them in different Microsoft Word. Please submit this project as a Word attachment to an email sent to your instructor through the Inbox on the CANVAS site. In the first line of your message, please include your name and the project name. This project is due at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, December 4th
