I agree with your point that they should've apologized for their mistake a lot earlier. Their denial was not required, they were going to be caught when this news was live. Transparency in manufacturing is very tough for a big-sized company like Nike. Some ways they could improve that moving forward is by making their vendors sign a code of conduct agreement, asking them to provide all their vendor's information and holding regular/surprise audits of these vendor's locations.
