Alternative Hypothesis Mean 0 (New) > Mean 1 (Historical Record)

Null Hypothesis: The variance of missed free throws now is less than or equal to the historical record of variance in missed free-throws.

Alternative Hypothesis: The variance of missed free-throws now is greater than the historical record of variance of missed free-throws.

There are two possible outcomes.

The outcome leads me to not reject the nullhypothesis. This means that there is no significant difference in the variance of missed free-throws now than in the past.

The outcome leads me to reject the null hypothesis. This means that there is a more significant variance now in missed free-throws than there have been in the past.

If I reject the null hypothesis, it means that the players are not as consistent with their free throws than in past seasons. There will be a reevaluation of training methods, practice strategies and time, and implementing stricter expectations and regimens to ensure the variance become minimal.
