I am asking the tutor to write a response to the following question in 250 words

Read 1 Corinthians 13:12. What are the limitations we face when interpreting the Bible? How are these limitations similar or different to the limitations of scientific interpretation?

Interpreting the Bible is subjective and is limited by the values and beliefs of those interpreting it, which may differ from each other. These interpretations are different than scientific ones. Science requires objective arguments. Scientists present a hypothesis and then create experiments to confirm or deny the statements. Science depends on being able to "prove" that something is accurate and that other scientists reproduce this interpretation.

How would you define "intellectual humility? Have you ever known anyone who had a very high level of intellectual humility? What about a very low level of intellectual humility? How did this character trait impact their work and interactions with others?

The literature has different definitions for intellectual humility. Depending on any given perspective, it means something different. One consensus appears to be that intellectual humility is a virtue. Intellectual humility refers to being honest and flexible about how much we know; "the core concept that most accounts of intellectual humility share are a willingness to admit that some of one's beliefs might be wrong" (Welch, 2021, p. 684). It is accepting that we may be wrong in our knowledge and having the flexibility to accept the ideas of others. It is having the ability to accept those ideas, reflect on them and incorporate them into what we know and believe. I have not been blessed to meet anyone with a high intellectual humility. However, does that mean that I have not met anyone, or my intellectual humility has prevented me from acknowledging those that have it? I had a supervisor with a very low level of intellectual humility. As far as she was concerned, she knew everything and did not accept any challenges or differing opinions of what she believed to be accurate. This trait impacted her ability to do work effectively because her interactions with others were negatively affected by her inflexibility to accept feedback, and she had a high staff turnover.

How would you rate your own level of intellectual humility? What does it mean to be intellectually humble as a student? As a researcher? As a Christian? What can you do to increase your intellectual humility?

I rate my intellectual humility in the mid-range. I actively try to be humble about my intelligence, but I feel that I'm not successful all the time. I have a very high IQ, my brain works in a very peculiar way, and I have had many challenges in my career because of it. What seems common sense to me does not necessarily mean that it is easy for others to understand; most of the time, I do not realize it. I can analyze (and most often, overanalyze) something in a few seconds, and I confuse others when I try to explain it. People see that as me being arrogant and a show-off. I had to learn how to be an effective leader without antagonizing others. To increase my intellectual humility, I need to reflect on what I am going to say, what I know and accept that I do not know everything. I think carefully before speaking, am flexible, and adapt to different ideas and input. I reflect on the situation before giving my feedback, and being intellectually humble as a student means accepting that we are not the "experts" and are here to learn from others. Intellectual humility is necessary as a researcher because one needs to be accurate in how much we know and accept that we need help and know when to seek answers. Intellectual humility can affect our Christianity. Some Christians are rigid in their beliefs and values, while others are more flexible and accepting. Neither is wrong, but it does affect how they relate to others that do not share the same beliefs.
