I answered the following question. Can you please respond as to what you think of my answer?

Q: Discuss why ethical guidelines are important in research. Additionally, suggest some unique ethical challenges that research may face in the field of criminology or criminal justice.

A: Ethical guidelines are important in research because it creates boundaries for the researcher and the participants involved. It is important to honor and respect the wishes of those participating because they are voluntarily speaking about certain incidents that can potentially put them in a vulnerable position. We must be capable of sympathizing with some topics that may be sensitive and traumatic to those participants involved. Supporting the values and morals of each individual will provide them with the respect they deserve. It is also important to be conscious of their privacy as they may not be comfortable in sharing every aspect of their lives in the process of obtaining the research.

There will be ethical challenges when obtaining such research, for example, the probability that not every participant is willing to enclose information needed. We read that oftentimes exposing such information can instill fear and the reminder of such traumatic incidents can be too much for them to handle (Maxfield & Babbie, 2014). Although it might benefit our research, we must recognize that it can cause emotional pain towards the participant. We must keep conscious of the questions we may ask and find a suitable approach when obtaining such research. There will also be participants who are wanting to stay anonymous so we must be respectful in maintaining their confidentiality in the process (Maxfield & Babbie, 2014). Due to the complexity of finding research within criminal justice, it is important to have compassion towards others' emotional and mental states and respectfully approach these research methods in a way that does not put a participant in any harm.
