I believe that on a surface level businesses in the U.S. and elsewhere make an attempt to reduce CO2 emissions. However there is more to it than what meets the eye. For instance, if we take a look at the increase in hybrid and electric cars we see that in the United States in 2021 approximately 800,000 hybrid vehicles were sold and approximately 430,000 electric vehicles were sold totaling about 8% of the market. Hybrid and electric vehicles are purchased for several reasons including savings on gas and lower maintenance costs; they also emit less CO2. Electric vehicles are battery powered and do not emit CO2 and hybrid vehicles depending on how they operate. However, while electric vehicles are thought to be more environmentally friendly, there are still emissions created in the production of these vehicles. A large percentage of the manufacturing of vehicles is done outside of the U.S. where other countries are contributing to the CO2 emissions through the driving of vehicles and also the production of emissions from all of their factories. China for instance manufactures approximately 30% of the industry's vehicles resulting in their emissions being extremely high as well.

Under the assumption that significant efforts were to be taken, road, rail, air and maritime modes of freight transportation would need to become significantly more efficient as well. Logistically these modes of transportation would need to optimize in several ways. For example, from a logistical standpoint truck routes, capacity planning, and consolidation would be required in order to ensure better shipping efficiencies. Any empty space in any of these forms of transportation would be wasted. Additionally, if a truck dropped off a load and drove back empty that would also be considered waste as CO2 is emitted regardless of whether or not a load is empty or full therefore maximizing the transport and ensuring the trucks are filled at capacity for all routes would be beneficial. This example is transferable to the other modes of transportation as well as we would want to ensure all shipments regardless of mode are not creating unnecessary waste, packed as efficiently as possible and shipped in a strategic manner as we wouldn't to send 4 shipments in 4 different containers whether it be train, trucks, planes or boats if they could all be consolidated into one shipment.

Do you agree with the point made in the above statement? If yes, please explain in the paragraph.
