I chose Project Management to look further into. Project Management has a wide range of incomes associated with the profession. This is due to the different projects that a manager may be working on. An entry-level project manager would often be fresh out of school and responsible for ensuring the project is going smoothly. A mid-level and senior-level manager would require the employee to understand the paperwork but also would expect to understand the technical side of the work. According to payscale.com, a construction project manager makes a median wage of 11k less than an IT project manager. This is because often there is a specific set of skills that are required in IT and the knowledge is less common in the general public. When we change this to entry-level according to paysccale.com the delta between the two shifts to being just 1k. I would argue that this is because an entry-level project manager may not have the technical background as a mid-level project manager would. Often in the project management field, the person filling the role is on their second career path after working in the field. This leads to a mid-level manager having the skills for the fieldwork but also the skills of a manager. Again this leads the IT project manager to have two skills that may not be common in the workforce causing the pay range for the IT Project Manager to be higher. When we look at the senior level project manager we see a larger gap between the construction and the IT manager totaling at 30k. Again a senior IT manager would have to be proficient in the IT field and as a manager.
