This is to use the three essential elements for a successful collaboration which are clarity, engagement, and alignment, but also not to forget to include this critical element which is the right mindset. And the right mindset when collaborating within a team is to not have" pre-conceived ideas or fixed mental models" but rather be open-minded to be "fluid".

The article also talks about what a project leader can do to cultivate a fluid mindset and stronger collaboration among teams which are as follows.

  • Select and run better plays - This is more like a draft where ideas are brought to the table for all team members to discuss and select the suggestions feasible for the project.
  • Address both front and back channels - The front channel is all the materials and resources needed to complete project. And the back channel is the "attitudinal issues" that occur in a project and to resolve these issues is to start the project with a "question blitz" where people will be comfortable asking questions and talking about issues that need to be resolved in the project.
  • Focus on facilitation - These talks about facilitating skills being developed and this can be done by understanding the three stages in the collaboration process. The first stage is the creative abrasion, which is the first stage where a safe space is created for all ideas no matter how abstract the ideas are. The second stage is creative agility, where the ideas are no longer abstract but are being worked on through experimenting, testing, and getting feedback. And the last stage is creative resolution, where based on the results from the creative agility stage a decision is made.

In conclusion, I will say that if these steps are followed, it can lead team members in a project will feel important and therefore operate in an efficient manner in a project since they have all been heard and involved in the decision-making process in a project.
