I feel that when it comes up to pay increases linked to the performance review can be good for the employee. Some people that I have worked with and people that have worked for me have felt that sometimes management can give them a bad review or not what they felt like they deserve because of politics and other disagreements that they have had. By kicking it based on performance it can help keep the politics out of it and people can get what they deserve
