I have a scenario and question to study for the exam and i do nott know how to answer that. will you please help me.
Scenario:
The day before a scheduled surgery, Counselor Sam and Isaiah meet for individual session. Isaiah is calm and seems emotionally prepared for his morning procedure. Counselor Sam asks if he has any questions before wrapping up session.
" None- thank you very much. I'm ready for tomorrow morning and am looking forward to getting back home after. But can we pray together before I leave?"
Counselor Sam identifies as a secular Jew and is an atheist, and finds no value in prayer. Counselor Sam knows that Isaiah is a devout Christian, a former involved Catholic, and that prayer is important to him right now. Counselor Sam considers "faking it" for the sake of just getting through the awkwardness of the request but decides against it since going so would be disingenuous and disrespectful to Isaiah.
"Maybe you could call your pastor or speak with the hospital chaplain?" asks Counselor Sam. Isaiah looks visibly annoyed. "But my pastor does not know about my anxieties. You do." Counselor Sam wants to make sure that Isaiah feels well-cared for but does not want to be insincere and wonders what to do now.
Question:
How can Sam respond in a way that is true to their religious view and at the same time build a stronger relationship with Isaiah?
Please help me out if you because tomorrow is my test.
