I have answered the part of the question about his duty to disclose under partnership law. I need help advising potential issues with conflict of interest and liability.
The Scenario is:
John is a partner at Associated-Legal, a general legal practice in Belconnen. As part of his continuing legal education he attended a Building and Construction Law conference in Sydney. To his surprise he ran into Michael, one of his friends from when he studied at UC. Michael is the ACT Regional Manager for GeoCon, a company very active developments of apartment buildings in Canberra. Michael said GeoCon is dissatisfied with their current conveyancing provider in Canberra and offered John the business. Michael said there were currently over 280 apartments under construction by GeoCon. Michael said the work was mostly on-line and may not even need client contact for each conveyance as GeoCon can manage client meetings. John is thinking he can do the work from home and after business hours. John seeks your advice as to his rights and obligations under Partnership Law.
