I have recently had an opportunity come up with regards to my employment. As you know, I have been working at IBM for many years, and have enjoyed the many fringe benefits they have offered - including reimbursing my travel costs, health insurance for myself and my wife, annual parking passes and a free turkey each year at Thanksgiving. Well, I now have an opportunity to go work as a sales consultant for a new company in San Diego as a independent consultant making $150,000 gross per year. AS you know, I am currenlty making $150,000 oer year as an employee at IBM. What are the tax ramifications if I move to the new company and how much or less in taxes will I pay? Are there any other things I should consider in possibly making the change?
