Camerons:

In this current event news article it talks about wildfires currently happening in texas. It is being called one of the biggest fires in texas history. Dry conditions and high winds are fueling the blaze and leaving a huge amount of damage to texas infrastructures. This is an interesting story because of the gray are in wildfires. while many are natural events, they still raise ethical issues. Humans do have control of them to a degree. Some of the major ethical issues involved in wildfires are decision in building property in fire prone areas, the environmental protection plans in place, the way we manage land and our overall responsibility. Looking further into these ethical points, are the land management practices enough in texas? By having more responsibility and better management, such as, controlled burns, more balanced animal populations to control plant growth, and even the consideration of a drier than normal texas. May have prevented the fire from spreading as much as it has.

Frost:

Last year, 2023, and this year of 2024, wildfires raged across the U.S, especially in Texas and California. Global warming continues to be a significant issue as temperatures continue to rise with dryer and dryer weather, with higher winds across the globe.

Fossil fuel emissions is does significant damage to our planet, causing global warming , where we will eventually hit a global "mini" ice age at the rapid rate global warming is going, I agree on your action (or response) plan for this issue as i believe switching to renewable energy sources needs to occur due to our current system not working as well as it should. People do use solar power, and renewable energy, but the main issue I see with this is the cost, renewable energy cost is significantly more expensive than non-renewable. In order to make a significant change, this cost needs to diminish or become more affordable for those who are already barely getting by.

I do fully agree with your view on carbon capture, trapping some greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere in order to assist the dying environment. There are several methods mentioned in place for current carbon capture, such as CO2 utilization (Alden et al 2019) , which it transforms into chemical reactions for enhanced oil recovery (Alden et al 2019). Out of 10 options in this article, Microalgae are an excellent source to avoid fossil fuels besides solar panels and off grid living. Microalgae's use biomass to make products, through a complex production source (Alden et al 2019)

I believe your viewpoint and response plan does not have unethical aspects, and does not interfere with ethical obligations. Our current systems are definitely not sustainable, as we continuously emit fossil fuels through driving our cars, cooking food, or even plastic waste. This highlights sustainability through your mention of carbon emissions that we make in our daily lives. This relates to our code of ethics reading, as ethically everyone has a "short" or "long" code, where each code has an internal conflict (Fleddermann et al 2000). In this case, the internal conflict is between the cost of living this lifestyle, or living our current lifestyles without the extra cost.
