Guidelines With your group, you will need to become familiar with your selected rm and its competitors. A good starting point is the rm's website where you can get to know the company better (read its history and what it does). Also, you should identify the top competitors against which your company competes (please identify just the the top three publicly traded competitors). After getting familiar with your company and its competitors, you should start to research the General Environment (more about the General Environment can be found in this week's assigned reading and module videos) and to identify trends relevant to the industry in which your rm competes. An effective starting point in the External Analysis Process (scanning/monitoring/forecasting/assessing) is to examine variations in longitudinal data. Rather than examine raw data (an unreasonable expectation given various constraints we face in the course), I suggest you look at trends presented by various aggregators of data. A couple examples: Pew Research Center :5 is a nice starting point for general sociocultural trends and the Bureau of Economic Analye is a nice way to examine US economic trends. (that could provide potential opportunities or threats). For each of the seven segments of the General Environment, identify how the segment is affecting (and will affect) rms in the industry. For this you will need to nd and use at least ve articles or references in total for the assignment (written no more than three years ago) to validate your assessment. Make sure you provide references for each article. Identifying more than one source to back your claims (such as an article, comments by the CEO, comments by an industry analyst, etc.), will improve your credibility. Deliverable Use the following as your template for creating a Word document that one member of each team will submit in the course space drop box. 1. Company Name: 2. Competitor Group (select the top 3 - this may need to be revised as you progress in the assessment): 3. List the references below that you used for this assignment. 4. Write a brief assessment (approximately a paragraph) of major trends in each of the following segments based on your research. Some trends cross segments.
