I just received a solution to my macroeconomics problem on inflation rate. Suppose a nation's inflation rate is 5.8% from year 1 to year 2.

I just received a solution to my macroeconomics problem on inflation rate. "Suppose a nation's inflation rate is 5.8% from year 1 to year 2. If the CPI in year 2 is 200, what was the CPI in Year 1?" I see the solution and understand it but is it possible to do the problem with out multiplying by 100 to come up with 5.8X=20000-100X. At first, I thought you were using the 100 to get rid of the 5.8 and come up with 5800 but that does not seem to work either.
