In such a situation, I will immediately call the customer to whom the heirloom was sold and explain him about the entire situation, that it was the mistake of the salesman because of which that wrong product was sold. I would request him in a very polite way to return the hierloom and in case he is busy I will send my salesperson to pick up the hierloom from him.
If I was the customer who purchased the ring for my fiance and the owner calls me and explains me the situation. I will definitely co-operate with him and exchange the ring with some other ring of my choice.
