From my wider reading, including my opinion, one of the major changes that is impacting the contemporary business world is that of digitalisation. In recent years organisations, including economies worldwide, have been significantly impacted by COVID-19. This has had a significant impact on the way organisations operate, moreover, how workforces operate either remotely or through hybrid models of working from home on a partial basis of the week; whilst also including the remainder of the week in the place of employment, which have proven as an opportunity for managers to implement resource planning models that effectively add value to an organisations ability to provide their services or products to their customers, either remotely or through a combination of both; whilst adapting their management practices to meet the needs of their employees
(Clegg et al, 2022 18) states that:
Organizations in the digital age are switching from managing through 'hard power' in the form of imperative commands to 'soft power' through indirect methods, such as induction into organizational culture, training and strategy workshops or leadership courses
Changes in approaches to managing teams and workforces have changed in recent years, moving from hard power to soft power approaches, furthering the professional development skills of employees with regular feedback, including coaching, which promotes employee engagement, loyalty, and attention to improving a work-life balance.
Nonetheless by utilizing and integrating digital tools such as applications, including digital communication channels, to manage client services has enabled managers to develop their management practices Whilst Management is comprised of components of achieving an organisation's goals, communicating and coordinating (Clegg et al, 2022), the tools available today improve the dynamic of a manager's skillset to manage more effectively
The values embedded within an organisation determine to its stakeholders and customers what the organisation stands for and supports as part of its identity and foundation; one example is that of the organisation Zappos which has revised its values from engagement from its employees (Clegg et al, 2022), in particular, its employees; were able to engaged considerably which fostered a strong sense of responsibility and cohesion.
What are your thoughts on digitalisation, including the positives in addition to the negatives of the way managers operate within the workplace?
