I need a response to this discussion question The concept that I found interesting in this topic isadilemma in ethical decision-making.It is important to behave ethically and encourage ethical behaviors in others. Ethics is about maintaining good behavior andapositive image even when no one is watching us. It also involves searching for and evaluating our assumptions and opinions to make sound decisions. But sometimes, situations are difficult and involve two or moreequally undesirable alternatives.Informed consent is an important ethical principle psychologists mustconsider(Fischer). However, the process of informed consent is not always possible. For instance, whena patient's comprehension level and decision-making capacityarelimited, informed consent is impossible. It is also challenging to achieve informed consent when minors are involved.
Ethics canbeapplied to personal and professional life by identifying personal ethics. The general principles of ethics include honesty, respect for others, transparency, accountability, compassion, fairness, and law-abiding.I would narrow down these principlestobest incorporate them into my daily life. For instance, based on my core values and beliefs, my unique ethical principles are honesty, integrity, respect, responsibility, and compassion.Determiningand prioritizingown set of principles helps applyethics to daily living.I would apply ethics in my future profession by settingprofessional goals, showing respect to others, executing my professional responsibilities, maintainingapositive attitude toward my company, and seeking professional growth.
The informal resolution process and reporting ethical violations under APA Ethics Code Standards is unclear. Standard 1.04 oftheAPA Ethics Code requires psychologists to formallyreport ethical violation it has substantially harmed or would likely harm a person or organization(Fischer, 2016).It is not applicable when interventionswould breachconfidentiality. There is little ethical guidance on applying these standardssinceevaluatingthe situationprimarilydepends on psychologists' beliefs and observations.
